From Big City to Wide Open Spaces: A Journey into Yoga and Self-Discovery

Paige Bara is a 200 hour registered and certified yoga teacher trained in traditional Hatha and Vinyasa style classes. Paige completed her training in Ubud, Bali with Yoga East+West. East+West is led by teachers from India, China, and Bali to teach Eastern spirituality, philosophy, and culture to students from the Western world.

Born and raised in Northern California USA, Paige is part of a multigenerational circle of women who have immersed themselves in the world of yoga. Glo, Paige’s rebel grandmother, introduced her Western family to yoga and spiritual practices in the 70s. From there, Paige’s mom Rebecca took her teachings to the next level opening 2 magnetic yoga studios in the Bay Area. As a competitive athlete and self-proclaimed overdoer working in finance on Park Avenue in New York City, Paige was initially resistant to yoga. Paige craved space amongst the noise of busy New York City living and found a yoga studio that provided the inner and outer quiet she was missing. This inspired Paige to create her own Eat Pray Love moment. She said goodbye to NYC and traveled solo to Southeast Asia. During this journey, Paige completed her 200 hour yoga teacher training in Bali, which sparked her passion for spiritual living, yoga, and surfing. Along the way, she surfed the coasts of Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Portugal, deepening her connection to the ocean and nature. Paige is proudly carrying on the tradition of the pioneer women in her family as the creator of Wide Open Spaces retreats.

Creating Wide Open Spaces

The iconic song by the Chicks, “Wide Open Spaces” captured the emotions Paige felt leaving the US on her solo journey. Paige knew she needed to expand herself and explore the world; step into the unknown, have space to make big mistakes and be surrounded by new faces. While aware of what she was leaving behind, Paige was ready to take a risk, trusting that there was so much more this world had to offer.

Upon completing her yoga teacher training, Paige rediscovered a deep sense of peace and joy that had always been within her, but that she had lost connection to. Paige fell back in love with life. After two years of teaching yoga at various studios and surf camps in Southeast Asia and Portugal, Paige is ready to take everything she has learned and bring it to you at Wide Open Spaces.

Whether you’re a seasoned yogi, or brand new surfer, you are welcome here. I can’t wait to meet you, move with you, and share the magic of Portugal.
